Erich Fromm, in his 1976 book titled “To Have or to Be?” questioned about the two modes of existence that are inherent to our nature. As the author himself, I think the answer can be only one. I don’t remember where I was when I listened for the first time the waltz “Jem the Miller”, but it’s one of those tunes that sticks in your head and I remember well that I played it by ear on my mandolin as soon as I got back home.
